Q: How many sessions will I need?

Since everyone has different backgrounds, needs, and goals in therapy, there is no one answer to this question. Our goal is to do whatever is most beneficial for you, whether that’s short-term or long-term psychotherapy. While individual goals vary by person, the overall goal of therapy is to provide each person with the insight, tools, and practices that enable them to build healthy relationships and live a more fulfilling life.

Q: How do I login for my telehealth appointment?

You will log into the TherapyPortal (link: https://www.therapyportal.com/p/trailahead/ ), where you filled out intake paperwork, to access our telehealth services. Once you login there will be an option at the top of the screen to join your telehealth session. If you need your access to the Therapy Portal reset, please contact your therapist directly.

Q: How long will my therapy session be?

Typically, therapy sessions are booked for an hour, which will last between 53-56 minutes. A little time is left at the end of each session for your therapist to write a note about your session and get prepared for their next client.

Q: Can my child wait in the waiting room during my session?

No one under the age of 14 is permitted to wait in our waiting room unattended. If you are unable to arrange for childcare during your therapy session, please consider changing your appointment to telehealth or rescheduling. If you leave your child unattended in our waiting room and/or if they cause any disturbance to other sessions in progress, this may be cause for a termination of services.

Q: What is your attendance policy for couples counseling?

Due to the complex nature of couples counseling, treatment planning and skill development, we do not waive any missed appointment fees. Missed appointments (no-showing or canceling with less than 48 hours’ notice) will be charged the full session rate for any missed appointments. If you know that you will need to miss a couples counseling session, we recommend planning as far in advance with your therapist as possible. This will allow you to jointly come up with a treatment plan so that you can maintain progress between sessions. Couples who attend fewer than 90% of their scheduled appointments may be terminated from treatment or will need to schedule based on the week-to-week availability of their therapist.

Q: What is your attendance policy for individual therapy?

Clients are expected to attend every appointment or cancel with our office at least two days (a full 48 hours) prior to their regular appointment. At a therapist’s discretion, clients may reschedule a missed appointment. We offer two free short notice (less than 48 hours) cancellations after you have established care with one of our therapists, regardless of reason for cancellation for individual psychotherapy sessions. These cancellations are meant for needing to cancel due to illness, emergencies, childcare issues, etc. After a client uses their two free cancellations or no-show appointments, they will be charged $100 per missed session. This amount will be charged automatically based on our cancellation policy. NOTE: Those with Medicaid as their primary insurer will not be charged these fees. If you know that you will need to miss a therapy session, we ask that you let your therapist know with as much notice as possible. We are happy to plan with you and create a schedule for therapy that is sustainable for you. Trail Ahead Therapy, LLC and its therapists may require week-to-week scheduling for clients who attend fewer than 85% of scheduled appointments. Inconsistent or low attendance is cause for termination of treatment.

Q: Who do I contact about billing questions?

You are welcome to reach out directly to our administrative staff with billing questions. We can’t answer plan-specific questions you may have, but we can answer questions about our in-house billing practices (co-pays, cancellation fees, when fees are charged, etc.). If you have questions about your specific insurance plan, benefits, deductible, etc. then we recommend you contact your insurer directly. A number for customer service will be on the back of your insurance card.

Q: Where do I fill out intake paperwork?

Once you schedule your first appointment, you will receive an email from our TherapyPortal where you can login to complete paperwork. Please check your spam folder if you do not see it. If you need this email resent to you, please contact us.

Q: Are your offices accessible?

Our goal is to make therapy accessible for everyone and we’re open to any accommodations you may need or feedback you may have for us. We also offer telehealth sessions that allow for flexible scheduling and sessions from the comfort and convenience of your location of choice. Albuquerque Offices Our Albuquerque office is located on the second floor of Rio Grande Plaza. There is an elevator in the center of the property in the clock tower. Once you exit the elevator, the entrance to the office is on your right. Please note that, at this time, we do not have an automatic door. However, our staff would be happy to greet you at the entrance to help you inside. Santa Fe Our Santa Fe office has accessible parking and a paved walkway that leads to the front door. Please note that, at this time, we do not have an automatic door. However, our staff would be happy to greet you at the entrance to help you inside.
