Two people talking in an office

Trail Ahead offers assessments with Masters-level clinicians with the aim of providing affirming care, exploring self-identity, and tailoring therapy treatment goals to the unique needs of each client. We celebrate and honor the diversity of human experience and believe that the assessment process should be holistic and considerate of the unique cultural experience and background of each client.

Please note: Trail Ahead Therapy does not currently offer neuropsychological evaluations that may be necessary to apply for certain benefits, such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). If you are seeking an official diagnosis to use to apply for benefits, please check with that entity to see what level of licensure and the type of assessment process required to qualify for that service prior to scheduling an assessment with us.

Cost: While assessments can take place during therapy sessions that are covered by insurance, there may be additional costs associated with the assessment process that are not covered by your insurance. To learn what those costs are, please visit our Insurance & Rates Page

ADHD & Autism Assessments

Trail Ahead is able to provide assessments for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We currently offer the DIVA-5 for ADHD assessment and the MIGDAS-2 for Autism assessment. These assessments are used to help confirm or rule out a diagnosis and can help bring clarity and understanding around one’s lived experiences. Receiving a diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism can also help pave the way for workplace or school accommodations that are tailored to your needs and help you advocate for yourself.

Please note: A brief letter confirming a diagnosis is included in the cost of your ADHD & Autism assessment. If you would like a full diagnostic evaluation assessment write-up, that will be an additional cost not covered by insurance. To learn what those costs are, please visit our Insurance & Rates Page

Gender Affirming Care Assessments

Trail Ahead is able to offer a gender-affirming care assessment, which is a supportive discussion that helps a person explore their gender identity and needs. By doing this, you and your clinician will be able to determine the best way that Trail Ahead can support you on your journey towards seeking gender affirming care such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), surgery, and more. While our team does not pathologize gender identity, it is important to note that the medical model in our current system for LGBTQ+ individuals to seek gender affirming care does require a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. This is something that your provider will discuss with you in more detail.

Please note: A full diagnostic evaluation assessment write-up or letter of support will be an additional cost not covered by insurance. To learn what those costs are, please visit our Insurance & Rates Page.

PTSD Assessments

Trail Ahead is able to provide comprehensive assessments to diagnose and treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We understand that there are many complex factors that can lead to the presence of PTSD symptoms and utilize a variety of assessments such as the Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire (ACE), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5), and more. At Trail Ahead, we believe that trauma can be a contributing factor to many mental health diagnoses (such as depression and anxiety) and that its impact extends beyond our general understanding of PTSD.

It is important to note that having an official diagnosis of PTSD in one’s medical record may impact access to things such as: life insurance, security clearance, travel visas, and more. This is something that your provider can discuss in more depth with you.

Please note: A brief letter confirming a diagnosis is included in the cost of your PTSD assessment. If you would like a full diagnostic evaluation assessment write-up, that will be an additional cost not covered by insurance. To learn what those costs are, please visit our Insurance & Rates Page.

Depression & Anxiety Assessments

Trail Ahead asks all new clients that establish with our practice to complete a screener for depression (PHQ-9) and anxiety (GAD-7) at the time of intake. Your provider can provide further assessment for depression & anxiety during your sessions by exploring a variety of topics such as: family history, presentation of symptoms, personal history of self-harm or suicidal ideation, and more. If symptoms of anxiety or depression lead to negative impacts on work or school, you may be able to ask for accommodations that make these responsibilities more sustainable for you. Trail Ahead can help by completing FMLA paperwork, writing letters of support, and more.

Please note: A brief letter confirming a diagnosis is included in the cost of your assessment. If you would like your clinician to complete FLMA paperwork or write a letter of support, this cost will not be covered by insurance. To learn what those costs are, please visit our Insurance & Rates Page.
