McKeon K. Dempsey is Navajo and her family clans are the Towering House clan born for the Rock Gap People clan. Her maternal grandfather’s clan is the Bitter Water clan, and her paternal grandfather’s clan is the Deer Springs clan. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) working towards clinical practice in Art Therapy.

She has been practicing in the mental health field for six years. McKeon has experience working in diverse settings supporting unhoused communities and specialized supports for Indigenous communities, LGBTQIA2S+ and adults. Her lived experience has greatly shaped her cultural competency by understanding firsthand the complexity of intergenerational trauma impacting identity, belonging, and navigating systems of oppression.

She enjoys working with adults adjusting to major life transitions, grief, loss, life in recovery, and individuals interested in mind-body connection work from a trauma-informed lens. She is excited to share her practice grounded in matriarchal wisdom, ancestral knowledge, and harmony. As an Indigenous woman, McKeon emphasizes in her collaboration with others compassion, balance, and a sacred space that is nonjudgemental and transparent. She believes learning is a lifelong calling and has committed to continuous practices of growing her own knowledge to help strengthen relationships and connections in surrounding communities.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts and a minor in Art History from the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and earned a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from The George Washington University (GWU).
