Hello! My name is Mel (she/her). I am a queer, second-generation Latin American counselor and art therapist. I prioritize a client-led experience through being attuned, operating holistically and applying research-based practices. I enjoy working with all ages and across a diverse range of backgrounds and needs though I work particularly well with creative minds, highly sensitive individuals, and those who are seeking a multimodal approach. My core strengths lie in assisting with anxiety, depression, burn-out, identity exploration, attachment repair, life transitions, ancestral healing, inner wisdom and spirituality.
In our work I will collaborate closely with you to develop therapeutic goals along the lines of trauma processing, emotional sustainability, communication skills, creative health, increasing mindfulness, feeling embodied, reclaiming a relationship with the natural world and developing a more fulfilling connection with yourself and others. I aim to follow your lead in support of any day-to-day or longer-term ambitions. I am grateful to be able to provide sessions meant to honor and expand your self-awareness and emotional toolbox.
I received a B.A. in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies from Florida State University and a M.A. in Art Therapy & Counseling from Southwestern College in northern New Mexico. In my free time I am often playing outside, exploring new places, engaging with all kinds of art, taking long walks or swimming, hanging out with my cats and sharing meals with loved ones.
